8 – Brown rice and bone health
Magnesium is an important nutrient for the health of the bones, and brown rice is an excellent dietary source of magnesium. More than 50% of people in the US consumes less than the recommended dietary allowance of magnesium per day.
There is an association between deficiency of magnesium and low bone density together with an increased osteoporosis risk. Increasing magnesium intake could be a low-cost preventive measure against osteoporosis in people with magnesium deficiency.
Brown rice is also an excellent source of manganese, another mineral that supports the health of the bones.
